Application of Peristaltic Pumps in Pharmaceutical Coating Machines

In specific equipment and according to specific processes, certain film-forming materials are applied to the surface of solid pharmaceutical preparations so that after drying, they form one or multiple tightly adhered multifunctional protective layers with varying thickness and elasticity. These layers can enhance drug stability, mask unpleasant drug odors, reduce drug irritation, delay and control drug release, prevent drug incompatibilities, improve appearance, and facilitate administration. This coating process is one of the important techniques in modern pharmaceuticals.

The equipment used for coating is called a coating machine, which comes in various types, including traditional pot coaters, high-efficiency film coating machines, and fluidized bed coating drums. The working principles of all coating machines are basically the same: the coating solution is sprayed onto the rotating material in an atomized form, and a heating system ensures that the coating solution dries rapidly upon contact with the material surface, forming a film layer.

Application of Peristaltic Pumps in Coating Machines

Peristaltic pumps are the ideal choice for pumping coating solutions on coating machine equipment. They transport liquid materials through the compression of tubing, ensuring that the liquid only contacts the inner wall of the tubing, preventing contamination from the pump body. The tubing has no dead corners, making cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization straightforward.

Using tubing that meets sanitary standards allows for contamination-free material transfer. By simply replacing the tubing, contamination-free switching between different materials can be achieved. Peristaltic pumps have excellent self-sealing properties, requiring no valves or seals on the pipeline, thus avoiding dead corners. The low-pulse design of peristaltic pumps ensures stable liquid flow. With a wide and continuously adjustable flow range, they can provide different flow rates according to process requirements. Peristaltic pumps exert low shear force, allowing the transport of liquid materials containing solid particles or macromolecules without altering their state. Additionally, peristaltic pumps can drive various tubing materials with excellent chemical compatibility. By selecting appropriate tubing material, highly corrosive solvents can also be transported.
